It all started with a dream… and a very tiny chatroom. Back in the glory days of caffeine-fueled trading and ticker-watching, I ran a modest little day trading chatroom called Renegade Trading Community (RTC). And by "modest" I mean... there were 22 of us. Twenty-two warriors strong. (Twenty-three, if you count the guy who only popped in to ask if Apple was “a good stock.” He didn't stayed long.) One day, I had a lightbulb moment.
“What if we created a RTC Around the World channel,” I thought, “to show where all our brilliant, high-octane, market-slaying members are from?”
A worldwide trading tribe! A global brotherhood (and sisterhood) of keyboard warriors united by charts and candlesticks!
There was just one problem..
There was just one problem. I couldn’t find a single tool that made it easy — or even remotely not-annoying — to map member locations in a way that looked clean, professional, and actually fun to use. Everything was either too technical, too ugly, or made me feel like I was hacking into NORAD.
So, like any stubborn entrepreneur with more ambition than design skills, I did what had to be done.
I downloaded a blank world map. I opened up a graphics editor.
And I manually placed little pin icons on it.
Yes, manually. One by one.
Let me tell you: nothing says “visionary” like squinting at tiny PNGs while trying to remember if Zurich is above or below Munich. (Spoiler: I still don’t know.) Eventually, the map was complete — and glorious.
Twenty-two pins scattered across continents.
A global mosaic of our chatroom’s might. We loved it. It became a conversation piece. Someone even printed it. It was my Mona Lisa. And yes, that’s the actual map right there on this page.
Take a moment. Admire the handcrafted precision. Bask in the watermark from ontheworldmap.com — because when you're changing the world, you don’t have time to crop out the branding.
It got me thinking though...
Then the real epiphany hit:
If I struggled this hard just to map my tiny community… how many other online groups are out there — Discords, Slacks, forums, fan clubs, product shipping companies, franchises, you name it — who want to show off their global footprint in a fun and beautiful way, but have no simple tools to do it?
That’s when Map Our Tribe was born.
It’s not just a map.
It’s a visual identity for your community. A place to see where you all are — and feel a little more connected.
So whether you’re 5 friends or 5,000 diehards, Map Our Tribe helps you show the world who (and where) you are.
